Jackie Kennedy’s wedding dress by Ann Lowe 💌

Made from over 50 yards of silk taffeta, Jackie’s gown is still a major inspiration for brides & designers alike. Like much of the Kennedy’s history, Jackie’s dress has a unique story of its own. Days before the wedding, a pipe burst in Lowe’s studio destroying the original gown taking 9 bridesmaids’ dresses with it. Ann Lowe and her team worked tirelessly to recreate the dress in time at a loss of $2,200 - about $21,000 in today’s money.

Ann Lowe was not originally credited for her work despite every aspect of the day being reported on. It was Nina Hyde of The Washington Post who mentioned Ann Lowe’s name, which would have otherwise been written off. Years passed before Jackie learned of the ordeal Lowe and her team went through. It was then that Lowe received a payment from an “anonymous friend” which cut her debt to the IRS in half. Of course, Anna Lowe suspects the friend to have been Jackie.
